Statement of Intent
For
my brief, I was given the challenge of creating a music magazine aimed at 14 to
18 year olds. The title I have chosen for my magazine is ‘Iconic’ because it
reflects the magazines views that every artist should be a person’s Role model
and should be idolised.
My
music magazine will release monthly editions with a particular theme; this month’s
theme will be ‘Women’s power’ and to show this, I will create a mesmerising artist for my front cover and double page spread. I am hoping to create a
controversial female artist that promotes the ideology of female leadership and
black power. I am hoping to show this by my use of mise-en-scene. For instance,
I will use low angles to convey my artist as authoritative and I may use the
clothing of my model to demonstrate her laid back attitude.
I
will be making a magazine aimed at teenagers who love R&B music and want to
read about new and upcoming artists from London. It will include artists such
as; Kiana Lede, WSTRN and Raye. I have chosen to take the pictures of my model
in the media studio; this is effective as it allows me to edit the background
using Photoshop. I will be using inter-sexuality in my magazine front cover –
I’m hoping to use sarcasm within this to portray my artist’s views. My artist
will be portrayed as direct/ speaks her mind and superior which subverts the
stereotype of women being sensitive and innocent.
The stories in my magazine
will relate to my cover-lines. For instance, my cover line will say ‘It’s not
looks- It’s talent’ quoted by my artist and this will lead into my double page
spread where the artist explains this quote in more detail.
